While dynamic stealth requires that members of a formation operate outside of visual range from each other, advanced sensors enable formation members to operate outside of visual range from each other. Because of this, fifth-generation fighters enjoy advanced battlespace awareness that allows their pilots to manage their signature by maneuvering to avoid detection. ![]() In contrast to previous generations of stealthy platforms, fifth-generation aircraft know the locations of both surface and air threats, and they know at what ranges and angles they can be detected. Sensor fusion is an important advancement for fifth-generation fighters.
